FLUTED ANTIQUE BRASS FLUSH MOUNT | 13 INCH DRUM | CLFLU033BR

A shallow brass drum, fluted in close vertical channels around the full circumference, closed underneath by a white acrylic diffuser set inside a solid brass retaining ring. Ø 13" (33 cm) and only 5" (12.7 cm) deep, so it sits close to the ceiling and reads as architecture rather than as a fitting.

The brass

The band is fluted brass with a brushed antique finish, bounded top and bottom by a plain solid brass rim. The flutes catch light along their length, so the piece changes through the day: raking daylight picks out the ridges, while at night the lit diffuser throws a soft glow up the inside of the channels. The antique finish is applied to the metal itself rather than lacquered over a plated surface, so handling marks at installation do not expose a different colour underneath.

The diffuser

White acrylic, not glass. It hides the lamps completely, so there is no filament visible from below and no glare when you look up from directly underneath. Acrylic also matters practically: it will not shatter if dropped during lamping, which is worth having in a bathroom, a child's room, a rental or anywhere the fixture sits above a hard floor.

Sizing and placement

At 13" this covers a room of roughly 80 to 100 sq ft (7.5 to 9.5 m²) as the only light source. Along a hallway, allow one fixture every 8 to 10 ft (2.4 to 3 m) of run for even coverage without dark patches between them. The 5" depth is the point of the piece: it clears a ceiling under 8 ft (2.4 m) without anyone catching their head on it, which is where a pendant or semi-flush cannot go.

In a bathroom, place it over the main floor area rather than directly above the bath or shower. The fixture is rated IP20, so it belongs outside the wet zones.

Installation

Mounts directly to a standard ceiling outlet box with the supplied bracket, with no stem or downrod. The diffuser is released from below for lamping, so the fixture does not have to come off the ceiling to change a bulb. Confirm the outlet box is rated for the fixture weight before mounting.

Lamping

2 x E12 candelabra base. Bulbs are not supplied. Because the acrylic hides the lamps entirely, bulb appearance does not matter here and output does: two lamps of 40W equivalent or higher at 2700K fill the diffuser evenly. Use two identical lamps, since a mismatch shows as a bright patch through white acrylic. The standard build is not dimmable, and a dimmable version is made on request when noted at the time of order.

Care

Wipe the brass with a dry or barely damp cloth. Do not use metal polish, which will cut through the antique finish and leave bright patches. Clean the acrylic with a soft cloth and warm water only. Never use solvents, alcohol or ammonia-based glass sprays on acrylic, which will craze it permanently.

Every piece is built to order. Lamping and finish are specified when you order; changes to the external structure of the fixture are treated as customisation. Trade and project quantities are quoted on request.
