Read the proportion before you specify it

At 26.5" wide and 24" deep this is very nearly as tall as it is round, which makes it a different object from a wide, shallow chandelier of the same diameter. It occupies vertical space and is meant to be seen from the side as much as from below. That suits a stairwell landing, an entrance hall or a room with height to spare, and it argues against a low ceiling: on 8 ft you will feel it. The Ø 38.5" version of the same design is only a quarter-inch deeper, so if you need more coverage without more drop, size up rather than hanging this one higher.

The glass

Clear glass with white streaking pulled through the body while it is still molten, so the pattern sits inside the plaque rather than on its surface. Every oval is blown and pulled by hand and no two carry the same figure: some are almost clear with a single white thread, others are dense and clouded. Seen as a mass across three tiers the variation is the whole effect, and it is the one thing a moulded or pressed-glass chandelier cannot reproduce.

How it lights a room

The lamps sit inside the drum, behind the innermost tier, so no filament is visible from any normal viewing angle. Light passes through two or three overlapping layers of glass before it leaves the fixture, picking up the white streaking on the way. The result is warm and broken rather than clean: bright where the glass is thin, milky where it is dense, with the lower tier throwing the most light downward. It fills a room with warmth and gives a table presence; it does not deliver flat, even illumination.

The brass

Solid brass rings, pins and chain in a satin finish rather than a bright polish. The three rings carry the full weight of the glass, and the pin fixings are what allow a single plaque to be lifted out and replaced without dismantling a tier.

Sizing and placement

Over a dining table, a 26.5" fixture suits a table roughly 40" to 53" (100 to 135 cm) wide, hung with the lowest glass 30" to 36" (76 to 91 cm) above the tabletop. In an open room, add the room's length and width in feet and read the total as inches: 26.5" belongs in a space of about 12 x 14 ft (3.7 x 4.3 m).

The chain is 72" (183 cm) and the maximum drop is 95" (241 cm), which covers a standard or high ceiling comfortably but will not reach down a double-height void. If you need it lower than 95", specify additional chain at the time of order rather than adding it on site.

Installation

Chain suspension from a 5" (12.7 cm) canopy, with the drop set by removing links. This fixture weighs 78 lb (35.4 kg) at 26.5" across, which is exceptionally dense for its diameter and puts it well beyond what a standard ceiling outlet box will carry. It needs a structural fixing: mount to a listed box rated for the load with blocking or a joist behind it, and have the electrician confirm the substrate before the piece arrives, not on the day. Hang and level the brass frame first, then fit the glass. The plaques ship packed separately and are placed tier by tier from the bottom ring upward, which is slower than it sounds and is not a one-person job. Handle the glass by the edges; the surfaces mark and the marks show once lit.

Lamping

Bulbs are not supplied. Use identical lamps in every socket at 2700K, since the light is read through layers of glass and any colour temperature mismatch shows as one part of the drum reading cooler. Output matters more than bulb appearance, because the lamps sit concealed behind the innermost tier. The standard build is not dimmable, and a dimmable version is made on request when noted at the time of order.

Care

Dust the glass with a soft brush rather than a cloth, which will catch on the plaque edges and the pins. Never spray cleaner onto the fixture; the liquid runs into the fixings and dries as marks. Wipe the brass with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately, and do not use metal polish, which cuts through the satin finish and leaves bright patches.
