Lit, the paper glows as a soft halo and the ribs draw fine lines of shadow across it; unlit, it hangs as a quiet pale form at home in Japandi, minimalist and wabi-sabi rooms.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eThe paper\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eWashi is a long-fibred Japanese paper, strong for its weight and slightly translucent. Each shade is made by hand, so texture and fibre vary a little from piece to piece. That variation is the mark of handmade paper, not a defect.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eThe light\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe paper diffuses the lamp completely, so there is no bright spot to catch from below, and the wide disc spreads an even, glare-free light over a large surface. Paper takes on the temperature of the lamp inside it: at 2700K it glows warm, while cooler light turns it flat and grey.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eSizing and placement\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 88 cm it suits a large round or rectangular dining table of about 150 to 220 cm (59 to 87\"). Hang the lower edge 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35\") above the surface. It also works as the main light in a living room or bedroom, hung higher on a shorter cable.
